The Unlikelies (Macmilland/Holt BFYR, 2027)

Set in the late 1980s in suburban Wisconsin, this is the story of four friends–Marigold, Emiko, Sully, and Deedee–coming together to create an original comic book in time for entry into a local comic competition. What results is “The Unlikelies,” a story that gives them a sense of belonging and empowerment via their four superhero alter-egos who fight to bring evil villains to justice. However, when events outside of their control force all four friends to reckon with the uncertainty of their future, newfound tensions threaten the very existence of “The Unlikelies.” Together, they’ll discover if they can pick up the pieces and give The Unlikelies the ending they deserve even if that means not having all the answers.
